Origin –

Baati is said to have originated during the time of Bappa Rawal- The founder of the kingdom of Mewar, where it was a popular war-time food. The Daal is said to have originated from the traders of the Gupta empire. The panchmel daal was a popular food in the Gupta Empire. It was from there that the combination of Daal Baati became popular. The churma originated accidentally when a cook of Mewar accidentally poured sugarcane juice onto the Baatis.
